The Origin of Mer

When Mer had not yet existed, ninylochan existed. There existed only order as chaos had not yet come into being. Then ninylochan created nidylochan and imbued in him chaos. Thus chaos came into being.

Then ninylochan created the first world and named it Mer. But into this world he put nidylochan that order might be contrasted with chaos. And ninylochan created the people of Mer that they might behold his creation and through the chaos praise the beauty of his order.

To the first people of Mer ninylochan gave a language with which to subdue chaos. This language was called aychaniq, which means "master over all change". And the first people of Mer thrived in the stabilizing power of their words. But they quickly forgot ninylochan and sought out nidylochan that they might also gain power over order, and not just chaos.

ninylochan gathered his people and struck them dumb such that they could no longer speak. When the children of the first people of Mer were born ninylochan taught them a new language, that aychaniq might forever be forgotten. nidylochan rejoiced realizing that the people no longer had power to subdue him. But ninylochan had not forgotten him and in the following days the sky rained stones upon the land. These stones were the first eiyes.

ninylochan taught the children of the first people of Mer how to use these stones. Each eiye provided a small area of stability. When used in the foundation, walls and roof of a house no change could overtake it. When hung from a person's belt nidylochan could not come near. Indeed ninylochan banished nidylochan such that he could never again come within eyesight of people or their eiyes. Such was nidylochan cursed with the curse of the people.

The First Towns

Not until the children of the children of the first people of Mer were the first towns built. In the first days of Mer every person built his own home in his own territory. But as families grew, houses became towns and thus the first towns were named after the first people of Mer. In these towns
